litespeed knows lots of stuff i don't.

i just realised i've actually got pretty much to do this hols. one week's gone though, and another will be spent at cssp. here's what i'm plagued with, according to level of importance, one being most important.

1. math common test on 21 may, all the way to functions
2. chemistry olympiad (covering all organic chem first)
3. econs common test when school reopens, all the way to cost of production
4. bio common test when school reopens, all the way to proteins.
5. gp essay with research to be handed in when school reopens.
6. project work, two meeetings after i return from cssp.
7. youth partner retreat

with luck i can get the essay done within the week after cssp.

studying will be counted on sleepless nights at mayflower secondary next week. hci-ers are there to lighten my load.

huimin says sharifa's not very happy with my barging into youth partners all of a sudden, zhilong says hope that she'll change her perspective during the retreat.

i shall start on chem. organic chem reminds me of miss jesse lim. haven't seen her for a while.

mit die deutschen leute.

german gathering today! we were at bk having dinner when i saw mr yap walk past. then after he sat down, somwhere behind me, i called him.

"hello mr yap? i see you. turn behind."

then he came over and asked if we were going for the hc concert, because that's apparently what he and his friends were there for. we said no. then he asked, "are you all from jj?"

we laughed and replied no. then he left. and frau ostlund added, "i'm sure i'm not from there."

i revealed their identities to him in an sms later.

anyway, we definitely had alot of fun over dinner. talked like there was no tomorrow. talked about everything under the sun/moon/stars, ranging from frau ostlund's new job to our respective schools to what we're busy with now to the german lessons only i continued with to our favourite teacher.

talking about our favourite teacher's the best part though. when we all think the same about that certain herr. we laughed alot.

at the end of dinner/gossip session i gave frau ostlun our framed photo, then realised everybody in the photo was present at the table, excluding ranika.

then we took another photo. how much we've grown in nine months.

gatherings like that should be held more often.

first cd youth partner house visit

school today for chem, mdm goh arranged this one-to-one lesson so that i won't miss out on that june 2 tutorial while i'm away on cssp. went pretty well(:

then was cdc house visit. heavy rain before prompted me to ask weien and wendy if it would be cancelled, but we still went in the end.

we were supposed to collect particulars of house owners in the neighbourhood behind corporation primary. the police officer said take 185 and alight at the second bus stop, but we decided to walk there.

then we realised the distance from the first and second bus stop is pretty great a deal, since it's like, two thirds the perimeter of a field. the guys (there were only three present) wanted to walk across the field to get just opposite our destination. and i wanted to join them, but ernest said, "eh you in shorts leh. here sure got snakes one."

and he went on discouraging me and fi-forgot-her-name so we went with the rest and walked two thirds the perimeter.

and they emerged at the other side with dripping wet socks and shoed. so ernest was all, "i saved your life!" the whole time.

we got even though, because i warned him of an incoming car.

the house visits went pretty okay i guess, though weien and i only completed twelve out of the sixteen boxes we're supposed to get filled, one for each flat.

there were more nice people than not nice ones. heh.

the first one we went to, the house owners weren't at home, but the parents of the wife were. we had some small talk, the mum said her husband and her came over from chongqing (which is part of sichuan), to flee from the earthquake. she got out copies of her daughter's and her son-in-law's i/cs so that we could have the relevant info.

then there was this other woman who only poked her head out from the puny gap between the doors. she asked for our license, which we didn't have since the police didn't give us, so she closed the door pretty angrily.

and there was this guy who opened the door and appeared with a bare torso. i noticed two empty wine glasses with ice on the television cabinet while he was filling in the info. weien and i had wild guesses what he was doing before opening the door.

we were done with eleven households, then i commented that all the people we've asked are either chinese or indians, no malays.

then the last house we got was a malay family. haha. the father sorta questioned our authority though, cuz he saw that the forms had no logo whatsoever. i do agree the forms looked pretty unofficial. and we definitely need licenses.

we're going on a youth partner retreat on 16 june, it'll last till 17th. it's just a chalet though, but we'll be doing youth partner stuff and costs are borne by the spf. heh.

i want my youth partner shirt. though i can't say it's nice.

i'm alive. if you didn't know that.

I'm Alive
Celine Dion

I get wings to fly... Oh-oh
I'm alive... yeah

When you call on me
When I hear you breathe
I get wings to fly
I feel that I'm alive

When you look at me
I can touch the sky
I know that
I'm alive

When you blessed the day
I just drift away
All my worries die
I'm glad that I'm alive

You set my heart on fire
Filled me with love
Made me a woman
On clouds above

I couldn't get much higher
My spirit takes flight
(My spirit takes flight)
'Cause I'm alive
('Cause I'm alive)

Ooh... never bound

(When you call on me)
When you call on me
(When I hear you breathe)
When I hear you breathe
(I get wings to fly...)
I feel that I'm alive

Oh yeah, I'm alive.

(When you reach for me)
When you reach for me
(Raising spirits high)
God knows that

That I'll be the one standing by
Through good and through trying times
And it's only begun
I can't wait for the rest of my life

(When you call on me)
When you call on me
(When you reach for me)
When you reach for me
(I get wings to fly...)
Ah-ah...
(I feel that...)

(When you blessed the day)
When you blessed, you blessed the day
(I just drift away)
I just drift away
(All my worries die)
I know that... I'm alive

Yeah...

I get wings to fly
God knows that I'm alive...

project work?

i am pretty pissed off by the progress of my pw group. i don't know, i've been pretty pissed with them ever since i returned from chengdu.

i just think our project won't make it. firstly it's a pretty controversial topic, what if our examiners are just biased against our view? what if they, like seb, dislike how we term our subjects "juvenile delinquents"?

to be frank, i don't like that phrase too. sends a shiver down my spine everytime i type/write it.

and why did they refuse to develop my idea in the first place? because they thought the impacts involved were too ordinary.

it's not the impacts that matter anyway. it's how revolutionary your idea is, to be able to bring out those overly-used ordinary impacts.

and sorry i don't think what our proposal comprises of is revoluntionary enough. it's pretty original in my opinion.

but since i have to go with the flow...whatever.

i just wasn't too glad when xueni said, "there's no use talking so much and not doing anything right." like hello, super direct criticism in my face? it's your idea, merged with all the rest EXCEPT mine anyway, what could i do? i've refined the gpp and came up with the survey questions while you people were happily enjoying your break slacking around, and now you tell me i'm not doing anything.

who the hell meets on a sunday for project discussion anyway. and i've seen enough projects to know that meeting in somebody's house's definitely uneffective. point proven by the first gpp draft i read after my return from chengdu.

the teachers advise us to allocate tasks for everybody for a reason. it's not to put on a show, to label tasks against the name of each member only to, in the end, have everybody do everything together. it's group work, i know. but what about efficiency? we're econs students. even though we don't exactly earn money, but time is money, which in case you didn't know, means time's valuable. i know i spent a hell load of time online doing nothing constructive, but hey, if i feel like it, which sometimes i relaly do, i can make use of the time to pull my e grade for math up to an a and have my name mentioned in class instead of other people okay.

i don't know luh. it's sounding like i'm tearing the group apart, but it's the trust i give people. i trusted them to develop my idea because that's what they said before i left for chengdu, and i expected to see a better proposal than mine when i returned. they broke the very first hint of trust i gave them, so now they're not very nice people i would like to work with. especially when throughout the term we're supposed to come up with a gpp, they actually decided to come up with ideas that i thought were absolutely stupid. okay maybe not stupid like stupid, but stupid like it'll never score us marks.

we don't have to think of our examiners as geniuses you know. give them something workable, something logical, something most people will agree on and favour, and we can be assured of a decent mark. not something that's dammit controversial even a group member (read: me) doesn't approve of and cross your heart and hope to die that we'll score.

from the first time i saw the gpp, i've been trying to save it. i'm convincing myself it'll work, and i'm still trying to blackmail myself into thinking so. it'll really suck if my grade becomes disgusting thanks to a stupid group idea despite the fact that i've got a pretty wonderful pi.

i think this post is one of the few that you will read that's so filled with angst. i'm sorry if it has resulted in any adverse effects on you.

p.s. this post was completed within 17 minutes, and only when i'm really boiling do i type damn fast.

p.p.s. my pw group, if you all for any reason actually stumble across this post, you have every right to hate me.

progress report and pd block injury.

yuhui
whoa. then maybe she's a loyal reader here. hi mrs siew, if you're reading this.
jiabin
yes i did it already. haha. i don't host google ads, i host nuffnang ads. i get more than a dollar each time. it's not very much, but it's money.
wei en
only for me wei en, only for me. XD

we got back our progress reports today.

math
topical tests: 5/10
written assignment: 2.5/5
active participation: 3/5
term 2: 53%--E

econs
tt: 4/10
wa: 4/5
ap: 5/5
t2: 65%--B

chem
tt: 7/10
wa: 4.4/10
ap: 3.5/10
t2: 75%--A

gp
tt: 6.3/10
wa: 4.5/5
ap: 4.3/5
t2: 75%--A

bio
tt: 7.2/10
wa: 3.5/5
ap: 4.7/5
t2: 77%--A

notice how i failed my econs topical tests but still managed to score b.

the first thing i looked for on my progress report was the grade for math. and when i saw e, i was kinda shocked. because i expected a s or u, subpass or ungraded, since i failed my last test 6/25. so i turned to mr yap and asked, "mr yap, why i pass my math? "

anyway he's so nice he agreed to give me one to one lesson next monday to replace the june2 lecture and brush up on my math.

mdm goh too, i'm meeting her on wed.

went to the ln after class today to paint our cdc draft banner/poster. after we're done someboddy passed a message saying a dude upstairs got cut by glass and there's alot of blood.

so, me being me, i went up to take a look.

this is what happened:

there's a almost completely-glass cabinet in the room, against the wall. windows are above the cabinet. the guy wanted to paste something on the windows, so he climbed onto the cabinet. broke through the glass top, smashed the glass cabinet doors. left leg has a very deep cut which, the nurses who came said, needed stitches. the guy said the cut on his right knee resulted in a piece of flesh hanging. then there's a more minor a little serious than abrasion sorta cut below the right knee.

i think he lost around 500ml of blood. or more. there were at least four pools of blood in the room and he was still bleeding when help came. nevermind half a litre is still safe.

so yeah the teacher (or some instructor, never seen that lady before) called the ambulance and the nurses arrived pretty soon after. one asked him what happened. she was clarifying with him, asking, "you stood on the glass?!" and he answered, "i didn't know it was glass..."

wonderful or not.

the blood looked like...some scene in the abattoir. and like spilt paint.

i bet it's super pain for him. but by the time our cdc members were attending to him, he said his legs felt numb.

and yes i agree with the teachers that he's VERY lucky to only end up with those three cuts. it could have been very much worse, considering the impact of a definitely more than 70kg guy falling off a platform that's around a metre high.

if you're wondering why i'm not at duty as i said i'll be, they had some little miscommunication, two people were planning the duty roster. they followed the other person's.

jiabin's tag.

one day left.

jiabin
you never tell me...so did you go back to get it in the end?

your dear blogger got her voice back today. not my usual voice luh, still abit husky, but at least i can speak with soundwaves coming out of my mouth which are actually measurable in decibels.

and this, i wrote in my gp skills textbook.

whoever linked husky voices to being sexy must have been wallowing in self-pity for a sore throat that never got better.
because of miss grace ang shi ting.

i've finally gotten myself a cca. i'm part of cdc, and a youth partner with the spf. first duty coming up on friday night, line camp. i'll be staying over till sat morning in case any first aid's needed.

it's thanks to wei en that i've got a cca okay. cuz it's the first time i ever saw the cdc people, then wendy was telling ernest (vp) that i'm new. then ernest said they cannot accept any new members alr, so i can choose to stay to help or leave. i chose to stay for that moments luh, since i didn't have much else to do. wei en looked like she was on the verge of tears, then she searched through her phone trying to find the sms that ernest sent her to say that i can join cdc. she couldn't find it, and i've already deleted the one that she forwarded to me.

so she voiced out to ernest, then the president stepped in, replaced another person's name on the name list with mine, then snap! i'm in.

how cool right.

so we drew out our proposed banners for community partnership. was groupped with xing ying, wei en and melissa, the a02 one. the idea's basically mine combined with bits and pieces from everybody.

okay seb broke his laptop screen and is probably feeling very lousy right now, i shall go attempt to comfort him. even though i fully agree it's a rather sad thing.

jiabin
yeah, with your ic. have to get it by wed though. which is like, tomorrow. if cannot go down personally get a parent. sms me for details.

shannon says i'm updating at a decreasing rate as compared to before. which is true luh, sometimes i'll just open my internet explorer and stare at my blog (it's the homepage), then decide the latest post's more interesting than what i wanted to share. or just say i'm lazy la.

re-ran 2.4 today, timing's better than my first try by nearly one minute, but still slower than my last year's run by more than one minute.

i'm psycho-ing myself that nan hua cheated and made us run less than 2.4.

yihao provided utmost support while i was running. i think this is the first time he ever counted the rounds for anybody. and ran to the pe porch to get girls to search my bag for my inhaler. (which i left on my bed)

speaking as little as possible in school today proved to be pretty manageable. eeling thought i faked it. and some other girls too.

a few more sms-es to china today.

oh yeah we got math test back. after i completed it in the lt, i went around saying if i can get 20%, which is 5/25, i'll be very happy. mr yap gave out the scripts this afternoon, and voila, 6/25.

steph when did your expectations stoop that low.

but i never was really good in math though. except for that period in sec4 i topped the class in e-math twice consecutively. but still, that's e-math.

i've choosing a cca to crash tomorrow. chinese cultural society or civil defence. i think i'll leave the decision to whoever's bringing me dreams later.

mum changed the bedsheets, i'll be sleeping on a huge pikachu for the next few weeks.

no picture, try imagining my bed. i rmb siyuan saying he's got the same bedsheets.

the n quizzes.

i slept most of today so there's nothing much to share. quizzes linked from eisabess' blog.

no voice.

i think my tagboard's beginning to look like a conversation board.
megan
i don't know who's haha. tying that person up at one of the trees in the weird grass patch outside jj's library would be pretty exciting.
jiabin
okay. i'll try to get him. rmb to go collect your graduation certs.
megan
few=anything more than two, lol.

lost my voice. it was husky yesterday, esp after sports day, but when i woke up this morning and tried to speak no sound came out.

so cssp meeting was quite awkward. jeannie thought i faked it la.

but it was fun communicating with people through passing of my phone. and being excused from the whowhathuh game. and having people buy lunch for me because i couldn't order.

the briefing had like, half the word document in windings because those were notes for exco and us facis aren't supposed to know. i was hugging onto the sofa's cushion and i still don't know why. groupped into C1 with cai qin and joshua, i'd anticipate a fabulous time at camp.

ran my 4x400 yesterday, was the first runner. i saw enough sports days to know that spectators don't actually care about what's happening on the track, so i was actually pretty surprised when jessica came over to hug me and say, "good run just now." because i overtook a bannister girl. but our team ended last anyway.

didn't run fartlek because i didn't feel like it. our team got third, but the medal's pathetically small. the diameter's probably less than two fifty cent coins.

i lost my phone yesterday. thankfully somebody picked it up and handed it to mr thomas tan. or maybe he picked it up himself. whatever, i'm just glad i didn't have to get a new phone.

most probably dropped it on the field while i was running to the pe room with max and wai jif, to get weights for our ownes banner. they got to 50kg weights, and it was really funny when they had to carry it all the way back to our banner. max and i were carrying one together, then winston came along to save us. he carried it like it was nothing.

then in the middle of the sports meet the banner fell because the structure fell, so from the spectators' stand i ran to the banner place to help abbi darren and some other guys fix it. retied alot of cable ties and stuck alot of canvas tape and cut alot more holes in our banner. in the end people had to stay there in case of emergency.

4x400 was actually pretty much a flop. when participants were supposed to report to the pe porch, only olivia and i turned up. a relay for four people, with only two present. i think we freaked out pretty much. grabbed the number tags and went to scream and where owens was to get another two j1 girls. it took pretty long before grace and constance saved the relay, adding one point to the total count for our house. olivia and i were already on the track and the race was about to begin, and mr ng sorta screamed at me to ask for the other two. i had to say that one of them went to the toilet and the other one's accompanying her. but i'm just glad we didn't have to give the event up.

went back to nan hua after sports meet, main aim's to get the grad cert, second's to eat. sat in the canteen with a few teachers and two principals and cp and juehan. mdm yong said, "eh i actually wanted to visit your website (this blog). but nowadays very busy, have to mark scripts and key in the marks..."

then i asked how she found my blog in the first place. she gave me a smirk, and replied, "if you can do it (set up a blog), i can find it."

caught up with mrs tan. it's been really long since i've seen her in person, like, last year. because she was on course for the whole of term one, and i was pretty busy till now of term two. she's another teacher (other than mdm yong) than i don't mind sharing my events in life about.

mr foo and i were at the canteen's jap stall, he was talking to the vendors becasue they're leaving soon. then he introduced me to them, as his grand daughter. the vendors and i laughed like mad, because be meant to say god daughter.

and yes i saw mr jt again. he never fails to appear in front of me whenever i go back to nh. that trend has never failed so far. and every time he would refer to me as his favourite student, only yesterday did i tell him he's my favourite teacher. juehan and cp commented lying's wrong. but wells he does have a place in my list of favourite teachers, because i generally like everyone that has taught me in nan hua. except for a certain few, like the history teacher that made me not touch the subject after sec two.

magic show in rp last night was pretty cool. their theater looks like the one in esplande i went to in sec two. the annoying thing is that everytime an act ends, the lights would flash on, then abruptly go off. but the tricks were nice luh. instead of having the international yoga conference, jj should host something like that. then nobody would have to be forced to attend.

28th's first day

kaiwen
thanks(:
jiabin
how am i. fine lor, other than the pretty disgusting sore throat i have now and the tons of work piling up. haha. any way to contact yuhong now?

today's 28th's first day at morning duty and assembly independently. yes people, janice forgot part of the pledge, but so what? it's her first day up there leading morning assembly. if you can be down at the field smirking and criticising, let's see YOU do it.

i dunno. i was pretty pissed when people around me made rather rude comments after the pledge.

chem spa was okay, i redid my report because i rmb-ed advised to use ballpoint pen. and since there was time, why not.

econs test, didn't manage to finish. i hope i'll pass well enough for my overall to pass. cuz econs is like my favourite subject now. bio used to be, until ms ong stepped in and i don't know what i think about the subject now.

supposed to be part of the 4x400 for owens tomorrow, i'll see if my body can take it. otherwise...i dunno. i hope they got replacements.

i'm still refusing to read newspaper reports/watch news about the sichuan earthquake. i don't want to see pictures of people i know.

h2 math test. council invest.

council investiture was okay until sarah said the 27th will step down. then tears began welling up, finally broke free when seniors were helping the 28th with their blazers.

seb's jealous that i gave out alot of hugs. and christian got at least four.

shiva's really sweet, held my hand half the journey from lt5 to the canteen while i had pretty puffy eyes. "we're still one family..."

i dunno luh, it's like, they're there on stage in blazers and court shoes being invested, i'm among the invited guests, when we went through so much together.

hidayah's words while hugging me made me rather touched, "i really hope you got in luh..."

and jessica was the first one to come over to hug me backstage. working together in chengdu has really made us so close, i couldn't help but bawl. i think the 28th thinks i'm crazy.

as usual, crying makes one tired. i'm going to sleep. math test this morning's a goner, hope tomorrow's econs and chem spa will be okay.

sichuan earthquake

kaiwen
yeah i am, but school stuff's suffering.

of all places to have earthquakes, why sichuan. firstly, jasmine's there. secondly, chengdu's the "capital" of sichuan.

suddenly it's weird to not see jasmine's msn status as online. though we don't talk very much.

i was seriously traumatized for five seconds when i saw the red dot on sichuan, on cna's website. that means the earthquake started there.

sent an sms over, jin xing's fine. i don't have contacts from yulin though.

me: are you all okay? did the earthquake affect you all?
my stalker: still okay, not that greatly affected. how about you all?

i swear i grinned at that message luh. can't blame him, twelve year old. i replied telling him sg's geographical location's such that we don't get earthquakes, and sg and china're abit far for us to feel tremors.

this week: chem spa, econs essay test on price elasticity of demand and supply, math test on mi(conjectures) and graphing.

i failed my third chem topical test, 4/10. but if the marks are like, added up with wa01, wa02, tt01 and tt02, my grade's still a. provided i don't fail my ap. which i'll die if i do.

phone advertisement.

i'm online now because i skipped pw lecture to come home to sleep.

if you're bored, you can click on the ad above. it's the nokia version of iTunes store, tracks can be downloaded at $2 each. i'd guess it's only for nokia phones though. so you people with se/motorola/lg/samsung/everything else, you can still click and regret not getting a nokia phone.

yeah my phone's nokia, a five-year-old 6680 that has survived lots of falls and sec one orientation and sec three camp and chingay'06 and ndp'06 and my o's and chingay'08 and jj orientation and chengdu and will be surviving through much more.

to add on, it's second-hand, which means it's probably much older than five years old.

and i don't know why i'm here promoting my phone. i'm going to sleep.

this weekend.

sebas
becauseeeeee. you know why.
weien
the hall civics? it wasn't a surprise what. we planned it out openly.

i slept for more than half of today. and internet's being really bitchy, lagging like dunno what.

no homework done this weekend, attempted abit of econs and read a little of time.

owens camp wasn't really much of a camp for me, because all the camps i attended, i was a camper. this time it's different, but different is good.

night one(the only night)
shazni: ehh you all have shampoo and soap? can lend?
me: yea i have.
shazni: (while i was taking them out) got strawberry one anot?
me: (hands over) no. you want soap or you want ice cream?
the other guy who came with him: ehh you see! the shampoo got almond oil and pearl extract one leh!
shazni: got vanilla anot?
me: ehh serious. you want soap or ice cream.
the guy: and the shower foam has shea butter and oat milk one.
shazni: (looks over)whoa really like food. sounds nice. let's go.

then they went to bathe with my stuff.

and the next morning during pt
shazni: max you stink.
max: and you smell nice?
me: of course luh, he bathed with my stuff okay.
i think we had fun laughing at the people downstairs.

did alot of running throughout the camp because i was sorta the extra person within the planning comm since i didn't have a proper post, so anything else the i/cs need help in, i'll be the one tasked to do it.

i guess the funnest part of the camp was the night catching, where i koped twelve light sticks. program comm, which i became part of, set the area up with flag lines. apparently chairs we tied the flags too weren't stable enough, so i had to sit on one, and feed mosquitoes.

but could tell the campers really had fun(:

tied water bombs in the morning, for the water games later. didn't play because i left early for cssp.

yeah, the bannister leaders' camp looked much more fun. at least the water games part. our pt was definitely nicer.

darren's message at 5.28pm last evening made me smile. i think it's the part whereby you do something, and somebody really recognises your effort.

we played funny games at cssp. exco led the polar bear and hunter game, but it was hugely distorted. then we formed into groups and were given each a list to look for prices of stuff at ntuc. which my group won. even though they deducted five points from us cuz we got assistance. but in the first place, they didn't say no asking the staff. and how on earth would you know what JD topside cube is.

it's beef, btw. hanjie thought it was some rubiks cube. our group had alot of exco members but none said anything about not asking for help. and we had loads of fun though, laughing at the other groups who haven't found any items after we were done with two and running around like lunatics in a supermarket. and was the first group to return to heartware. within fifteen minutes, serious.

packing for cssp would be fun. becasue we need a ready bag. ready bag=something you need to carry with you during an emergency such as war, and the bag would contain stuff like your important documents, torchlight and medicine. everybody at the camp would need to have that, campers and facis alike.

i'll be away for 5d4n for the camp, beginning 1june. i'd probably go late, on the assumption they'll ask us facis to be there in the morning. because my brother's going for a race, and seb and i will be going for one a week later.

the 10k race which i haven't trained for for a loooooong time.

when we were together.

pre-owens camp

jiabin
yeah i really enjoyed chengdu. though there's pretty much school stuff to catch up on upon return.
wei en
what surprise?
megan
apology accepted. lol. i saw your note on my paper before i saw the cut la.
jiabin
no luh, one small scissors cut only.
shannon
yeah, here you go.

once i returned to school, i joined the owens camp meetings as a part of house comm. at least, a house comm "applicant".

yufeng got me to contact darren, the i/c for the camp starting tomorrow. was in admin, then log, then less than two hours ago i called him and he changed me to assist in the program, where i would be assisting the assistant camp i/c. sounds cool.

so yeah, after i returned from chengdu i was sms-ing darren on a rather frequent basis considering we just knew each other, and one day i met him at the corridor of the pd block, he went, "ehh you yesterday never sms me i emo leh!"

but i checked my messages, and it was actually him who didn't reply to my message.

haven't exactly packed. i think i'm going to do it tomorrow morning because im lazy.

don't have a cca since i'm not in council, so i'm joining in rec badminton tomorrow. joy says i should join volleyball. i'm not eliminating the idea of cdc/ccs/cpc. which stands for civil defence club, chinese cultural society and chinese publications club respectively.

oh yeah council. genX's out, everyone who got their respective posts, i think they deserve it. from my first morning assembly at the field after ebing a council applicant, i've been looking at the twenty six councillors on the grandstand, and waves of emotions never fail to surge through me. everybody there had a same goal with me, they achieved it, and i didn't. but i look at them and i think, "you people can do it."

i've never regretted filling up the council application form.

thinking about the chengdu trip's still able to bring tears to my eyes and makes me smile. that probably makes me look like a lunatic on the bus, but wells.

supposed to upgrade my gc's operating system, but i have no idea where i misplaced the cd. so i'm sorta depending on shannon's gc to be able to send it over.

tomorrow's napfa 2.4 and gp content quiz and bio mcq test, i can't say i'm prepared.

miss me, because my next post will be at least two nights later.

chengdu 2008 part two

dayFIVE

we checked out of our hotel at dayi, then proceeded to the guo se tian xiang theme park. most of us bout the unlimited rides ticket for 60yuan, but i don't think anyone really made full use of it. i only went on two rides, which amounts to 30 yuan.

but it was still fun, with the admin comm wearing pink rabbit ears. did some shopping, then we went for lunch at a pretty nice restaurant, where my angel got aiksong to give me two tubes of potato chips. with jay chou's face on the packaging.

yeah our angel mortal game started on day three. day four i got orange juice from my angel, then dom passed me a flower from my angel at the theme park. me and my mortal, we just kept writing notes to each other.

there was classroom i/c meeting after lunch. for the city school visit the next day. talked/crapped pretty much, but we got our stuff done.

didn't go into the hot springs, slept where a few teachers and a couple of students were having foot massage.

checked into our second hotel in the evening. sat with christian on the way to the hotel because luggers (luggage people) and rooming i/cs in front. leaned on his shoulder in an attempt to sleep and he went, "steph is that a confession?" lol. obviously not.

daySIX
woke up with ten pimples on my face (yes i counted), shows ow bad the pollution in the city is. because the previous hotel's in the more rural area.

this day was jiacheng's birthday, but jessica and i shared a cake for jerome and him on day two, jerome's birthday. half of it landed on jiacheng's face though. but it was more cream than cake, the two guys had to literally dig through the cream to reach the sponge cake.

so yeah, we went to yu lin zhong xue, the city school. was classroom i/c of classroom 4, working with gadis, tommy, janice and jerome. they were definitely much more experienced in working with other students than i am, which i guess every other council applicant was, since i was never involved in any camp except my own orientation. but i'm thankful for their utmost cooperation.

we didn't take many photos, but i definitely felt more bonded to this class, probably because we were of similar age.

they had activities planned for us, we did calligraphy, transferred marbles from a bowl to a cup using chopsticks, ate the rabbit meat dishes they bought. the marble game, gadis and i were in a team, janice and jerome in the other. my team won both rounds so janice and jerome had to face the forfeit of drinking unknown colourless solutions. picked by me. there were five identical cups, containing either plain water, sugar solution, salt solution, sprite, vinegar. i think jerome got the vinegar.

we taught them games, cheers, claps, and songs. they gave us huge tokens of appreciation, and huaiyi had a gift specially for tommy.

then we had a finale, and we left the school. i didn't cry like i did at jin xing, but yu lin definitely gave me a new experience.

oh yeah, they have a planetarium in the school also, we spent some time there identifying constellations on singapore sky the teacher projected.

econs test after we returned to the hotel.

daySEVEN
instead of putting b1, the hotel's basement's labelled negative one.

we went to the panda park, where there're 47 pandas but the tourguide said we'll only get to see around twenty. didn't count the exactly number of furry mammals we saw and oogled at.

and mind you panda's are not always black and white. they do get pretty dirty, then they're black and brown.

panda facts:i hope you'll be able to see the english one if you don't understand the chinese one. (click to see full size) i'm still pretty amazed by the fact that the 100gm baby panda has a daily weight increase of 100gm.

jasmine was supposed to meet with me/us that day, but she sms-ed me the night before saying there's an important celebration at home so she can't go over.

and therefore shopping at chun xi street was with jj leaders. got a ferregamo belt, obviously not genuine but still nice, got a nike shirt which was the same as what my mortal has (this time it's genuine), ate swensens and macs, and went up five storeys of a departmental store and back down with huai ching within six minutes. damn funny.

and this day seven of our chengdu trip, the first council couple was born, janice and jerome being a shadow couple. the story's pretty funny. and mr chua said this 28th sc schould be having four couples. according to the pattern, 26th had 2, 27th had 3, so...yeah.

didn't bring my phone along for shopping, left it in the hotel. and when i went back, i received two sms-es from china. one was from the rural school, the other one was unidentificable and didn't reply when i asked who he/she was.

the rural school boy, we're still keeping in touch. through mms/sms because he doesn't have email. sebas calls him my stalker.

thought this day would be like, the best day of our trip, or at least draw a nice conclusion since it's our last night in china, but our debrief had to spoil it.

i think we were asked to report at 9.15, and we were only released at like, 1+am. because during the debrief, mr leow talked alot and made us think of what would be out proudest moment and the greatest regret in our lives, in case our plane the next day doesn't make it to landing.

i was staring at him almost the whole debrief, i think mr tan saw it.

egoh and some more people planned a party, so she took the key while i stayed in the room. i was already pretty pissed so i only felt like sleeping. her taking away the key means no electricity, so i made a makeshift lamp using a torchlight and the lampshade beside my bed. somewhere in the middle of the night she talked to me but i don't rmb about what.

huai ching told me on the plane back that he actually sat on my bed. apparently a few leaders came over to our room, me and egoh's, because their party plan failed. i asked if i looked unglam when i was sleeping, and hc said he took a photo of me. whether it's real or not, i guess i don't want to know.

dayEIGHT
packed up to check out of the hotel.
my luggage actually felt lighter than it was on day one.
went to the luo dai old town, we made up a river of red. the tourguide was pretty redundant, because i guess most of us were in the shopping mood and we only had like twenty minutes to get all our purchases made.
the road outside the old town had weird holes.

lunch was at their government building, most of it was rabbit meat. the first dish we thought was duck because we saw this sharp thing we thought was the beak. elaine and i took a bite from our pieces of meat, then stared back at the plate. she picked up the sharp thing and we examined it, coming to the conclusion it's the rabbit ears.

there was another dish of vege in some purplish-red sauce that tasted salty, which convinced us that it was rabbit's blood. and being wonderful chem students, when the radish soup arrived, we did something like titration.

1. red thing's in bowl.
2. egoh adds soup.
3. colour change, and somebody screams: "ehh colour change! note the volume used!"

we were late to report after the time given to shop, and therefore we weren't allowed to tour the pipa fruit farm. still went there nevertheless, because they prepared food for us.

angels were revealed there, and mine was mr chua. my mortal, ms audrey lim, guessed her angel was jess. i think i'm the only lucky person who got both teachers for angel and mortal.

flight was at 8pm, by 4.23pm we were on the way to the airport. jessica treated me to kfc, then we checked in our stuff.

we had five fragile luggages, as in luggages containing fragile stuff, so they needed people to sign for them. and since i was at the counter because jessica and i were in charge of the passposts/boarding passes/luggages, i offered to sign. then mr leow behind me questioned my authority to sign the luggage tags, and mind you he looked like i committed a crime. ms angie lim saved me from it and signed the other four tags.

guessed it did look pretty disturbed, because those who witnessed mr leow screaming at me kept reminding me to relax and not be stressed.

boarded the plane soon without additional time at the duty free there because their service's dammit slow. so i came back to singapore with 200++yuan left.

nothing much happened today, i'm still not motivated to do econs and math. there're chem and gp tests for me tomorrow.

chengdu 2008

shannon
cuz i don't control the advertisements that're there. haha.
kengyang
good one, now i forgot your blog url.
chucky
miss you too=D
kohconut
that's the previous post, this one will be the first one since i returned.
wei en
yeah, thanks for collecting all my stuff while i was away(:
junjie
i did enjoy my trip, thanks!
liling
haha i linked everyone that i found. thanks anyway(:
anonymous
i don't know who you are, but i'm glad for that fact.
jiabin
hey. my blog was only inactive for nine days okay. but now i've got pretty much to catch up on so the post flow will most probably slow down.
kaiwen
don't. now you've got one. haha.
calvin
you're welcome(:
wei en
yes ma'am, your wish is my command. XD
shannon
thanks(: yeah, this is the post.

i returned to singapore on may2, near one am. reached home at nearly two am, unpacked stuff, prepared presents, came online to find out what i've missed, slept at 4.44 am, woke up at 5.17 am, took the same bus as sarah to school and reported before 7.15 am.

so now, you'll read about my eight days in chengdu. i'll just post the day's nicest/most meaningful picture(s), and talk about the day's most memorable event. because there're really alot of stuff to share about, and nearly 600 photos were taken.

dayONE

the sky was really this layered, and the temperature outside, at 300000++ feet above sea level, was -11deg.C.

seats in the plane was two rows of three seats, sat with jessica and jess. touched down at around noon.
went to furong old town, attempted to make my first purchase at the supermarket there. only needed a bottle of water which was 1yuan, and i only had notes in 100yuan. handed it to the cashier and she stared at me. real hard.

we walked around, played some laser-shoot-balloon game, then camwhored. most photos are in cameras of the rest (which i haven't gotten my hands on) because mine was running out of batt. photo shows the admin comm.

dayTWO
first chengdu breakfast. please ignore my hair, it's those just-woke-up kinda thing.

day one at jin xing xue xiao, a rural school. the class my team was in charge of was a class on 12/13 year-old kids. the age difference because there's no actual age children had to be sent to school.

played games, sang songs. stayed till before dinner.

visited the toilet, and it looks like this:
most of the other toilets we visited during this trip were like that, doorless and flushless. at least for the female toilets. no idea what the male toilets looked like.

during breakfast, shawn (one of our guides from sg), gave us an extra plate of hard boiled eggs. mr tan said to keep one in our bags, in case we needed something extra for lunch. i forgot about it till lunch.

because i was taking out my camera, then i saw these funny small yellow stuff in my bag. poked them nad realised they were fluffy. then it struck me that it was actually egg yolk. emptied my bag to find the egg, and it looked like that:
whole lunch table laughed like mad once i fished it out.

this day was when my favourite photo of the whole trip was taken.they were not kids i was in charge of--they were much younger and our programme wasn't planned for them. so during their break, they stood around where we were playing games, looking very interested and shying away when i invited them to join in. when we were about to leave and taking photos, they came over, looking very interested. so i took a photo with them. that expression on their faces, i don't think we'll ever see in on the faces of kids from sg.

the boy holding a peace sign, i saw him taking a photo of mr tan and the other boy, while i was on the bus, getting ready to leave. after a few seconds, he turned around looking very satisfied, and in his hands was an origami camera shutter. feelings about that, i'll leave you to decide.

dayTHREE
second day in jin xing, but the some of the students we interacted with were not with us the previous day, so we began with another round of self-intro. though in the end i didn't really remember many names.
by the end of many songs and many games and a finale at the grandstand, many of us were in tears as we hugged and said goodbye and signed notes and left our numbers.

then we boarded the bus and left to the founding place of taoism. it's a pretty new tourist attraction, opened 1may. which means it wasn't officially opened when we went, but they specially arranged a tour for us nevertheless. thick jacket i was wearing belongs to jerome, it had stuffing of feathers. we switched jackets because i was super cold. temp there's abound 16 deg.C.
interesting signboard. this was situated at the stairs, which lead to really high up a hill, and there weren't railings cuz the place was somewhat still under construction when we went.
then we walked to another place rather nearby, ms angie (our other guide from sg), said it's the olf tourist attration of the taoism founding place. not that taoism was founded at two exact points lah.

mr chua asked aiksong to dig up that stone, citing the reason as wanting to bring back as souvenir. so aiksong very hardworkingly scraped it out, only to have mr chua say he was joking about the bringing back part, only wanted to see if the stone could be removed.

dayFOUR

visited the rabbit king reserach centre, where the rabbits are bred for distribution to poorer families to breed and sell to earn money and as food. asked about how the rabbits are killed, the owner told me by electrocution.

they gave out bags of vacuumed ready-to-eat rabbit meat, i guess only elaine and i ate most flavours. (they had chocolate, five spices and curry) no wonder we're room mates. i think it's okay to eat the rabbit meat, because that's the whole purpose they were kept alive for. but it's definitely not okay to be eating rabbits in singapore, because here, they're pets.

then we went to the jian chuan museum cluster. they're altogether more than 20 halls there, but we only visited two. the one about the us flying tigers and the three-inch golden lotus hall. the latter's about the females of the past who bound their feet to around three inches, because that was what beauty was perceived as back then, probably around a hundred years ago.
then we posed with the chinese soldiers, whose statues were constructed in the ratio 3:2, which means they're half a time bigger than their actualy size. our china guides(the two ladies featured) arranged us in the poses of the war, and this was taken.

first half of trip done, days five to eight in the next post.

went out with sebas today, main purpose was for me to study. well i did my chengdu reflections and attempted understanding the last part of chemical energetics. did't feel like doing math and econs, so we left for lunch, then walk-walked in jp, then went back to the library to complete reading the book of 14000 things that makes one happy. cuz we thought we didn't finish the book the other time we read it at bishan library. started somewhere halfway, then everything looked familiar, so we skipped to near the end, then flipped the pages and realised we actually finished the book. throughout the time, two librarians came, one needed to look for a book at the shelf we were leaning on, and the other told us to not sit at the passageway. lol. we left for awhile, went to take another comic, then went back to read that. oh yeah the first book we read there was something about earthworms, title's "there's a hair in my dirt". it's a super joker/sadistic book.

and we saw alot of jjcians at subway during lunch. he received calls from a friend telling him he has to go to school for the sports camp, so that's where he is now. and i think i'm going to catch up on more sleep. immense homeworking tomorrow.
